National Unemployment Rate For May Being Released This Morning

Wall Street's recent rally could be coming to an abrupt end as the May jobs report is released later this morning. The Labor Department is expected to announce the jobless rate is near 20-percent for May, up from 14.7-percent in April. Adding insult to economic injury, Florida's unemployment claims for the week ending May 30th jumped 31-thousand from the previous week to more than 206-thousand. Bankrate's Mark Hamrick says Florida relies heavily on leisure and travel and that's why he expects the unemployment rate to remain in the high single digits next year. He doesn't expect our economy to hit pre-pandemic levels until at least 2022.
